Last summer, two weeks before Eduardo Vielma and Melody Luchuck planned to marry, Vielma and his brother were arrested and handed over to immigration authorities; he illegally entered the country in 2003. Now he is back in his native Acapulco, working as a busboy in a beach-front restaurant and bar called Paradise, but hoping his wife can find a way to get him back to Pittsburgh, according to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Luchuck is now working as a paralegal in addition to her old job as a waitress, and has hired an immigration lawyer to help her as she fights to get her husband back.
"It's going to cost me a lot more than I thought," she told the Post-Gazette. "But he's worth every penny."
Vielma is now banned from re-entering the U.S. for 10-years, but he and Ms. Luchuck can apply for a waiver that could cut that wait down to less than two years, but it is costly. They are also considering moving to Canada.
