Community Colleges Offer Path For Paralegal Education

While community colleges may not have traditionally been considered as serious educational institutions, it appears the public as well as corporations are regarding them in higher esteem.
Norma Kent, vice president of the American Association of Community Colleges, told Philadelphia Business Week that approximately half of the students in the U.S. are enrolled in two-year schools, which can be an alternative to four-year universities.
"Today, two-year colleges are much better regarded," Kent said. "Community colleges now have more offerings and more rigorous classes."
Corporations are also starting to notice the value of community colleges. Janet A. Sullivan, a senior paraprofessional manager with the law firm Reed Smith, said the company sometimes sends employees who may already have a four-year degree to community college to get paralegal training.
Kent added that some community colleges have had to limit their enrollment because of the increase in students flocking to the schools.
With legal professionals embracing community colleges, this may be a cue for someone interested in a paralegal degree to enroll in a program at their local school or get online paralegal training.
