The American Bar Association has reapproved the paralegal studies program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus after what was described as a "rigorous" process that began about a year ago, according to the school.
Ed Husted, coordinator of the paralegal studies program at the school, said the reapproval was great news for the students since less than 25 percent of similar programs in the country receive ABA approval. Such recognition is the highest available for such programs.
"Entry into the legal community's job market anywhere in the U.S. is greatly enhanced by graduates who earn an ABA-approved paralegal degree because it adds a valuable credential to their resume," said Husted.
The paralegal studies program offers an associate degree through the UAF Tanana Valley Campus. Since the program began in the fall of 1992, a total of 170 students have graduated with paralegal degrees with many being placed in competitive markets around the country.
For people who are interested in becoming paralegals, this is a great way to take that first step into an industry that can allow you numerous options in the job market such as working for yourself, a law firm or a nonprofit.
