Despite what some people may think, it's never too late to get a paralegal degree.
Though Lorie Pacheco had gotten straight A's in high school, she was forced to drop out of school because of an undiagnosed condition of depression left her unable to leave her room, North Carolina newspaper Star-News reports.
From there, Pacheco's life could be described as a cycle of violence from failed marriages and domestic violence reports, according to the article. Eventually, Pacheco found herself homeless.
"Do you know what it feels like to stand on the side of the highway and have nowhere to go, no food to eat and no money?" Pacheco told the news provider. "I remember walking on Highway 17 and thinking, what am I going to do?"
But instead of giving up, Pacheco enrolled at Cape Fear Community College in the school's paralegal associate degree program at the age of 39, states Star-News. She is now set to graduate with straight A's and is convincing other women to enroll in classes as she did.
While Pacheco's story is an extreme example, it serves as a reminder that it's never too late to look into paralegal schools, especially for people looking to change careers.
