Paralegals must keep abreast of trends and innovations in social, legal and business practices, or risk being left behind, according to an article appearing on The Complete Lawyer.
One trend that cannot be ignored is the growing power of online social networking, according to author Chere Estrin, founder of KNOW, The Magazine for Paralegals.
Estrin says that, "Even if you don't understand what all the excitement is about (particularly if you are past 40), web-based social networking is hotter than ever."
Online social networking provides access to more people as potential contacts than perhaps ever before. Estrin offers advice familiar to many users of social networks for professional purposes, "Make sure that you don’t post more about yourself than you’d feel comfortable having your employer know." Social networks increased access is a two-way street, allowing you to contact potential clients and employers, but also allowing them an opportunity to learn about you in far more detail.
